Donald Joseph Fonck, 71, of Earlville, died at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City on Thursday, June 18, 2009. He was born on February 18, 1938, in Cascade, Iowa, the son of Phillip and Margaret (Beck) Fonck. He was raised and educated in the Cascade area. Donald served honorably in the U.S. Army for three years.

On August 21, 1965, Donald was united in marriage to Mary Jones in Preston, Minnesota. Together they farmed northwest of Earlville for 45 years.

Donald enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, the Cubs, 57 Chevys, playing cards, and his dog “Bud”.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Fonck of Earlville; two children, Gary (Tracy) Fonck of Delhi and Karen Fonck and special friend, Allen Pledge of Manchester; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Linda Chmelick of Cedar Rapids.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis Fonck.
