LeRoy M. McQuillen, 78, of Manchester, Iowa, died in presence of his family, on Monday, June 22, 2009, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born June 8, 1931, at Epworth, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Isabelle (Konzen) McQuillen. LeRoy attended Catholic School in Manchester and graduated from the Dundee High School in 1949. He then served honorably in the United States Army from July 1953 until June of 1955.
On September 22, 1952, LeRoy was united in marriage to Beverly Harbaugh at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. Four daughters were born to this union. In 1968 they purchased a farm west of Masonville which they farmed until they retired in 1997 and moved to Manchester.
LeRoy was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a past-member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #45 and Farm Bureau. He loved being with family and over the years enjoyed farming, especially milking and raising hogs.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly McQuillen of Manchester; four daughters, Sherry (Larry) Millang of Dike, Margo (Mike) Zitelman of Arlington, Carla (Terry) Franck of Winthrop, and Brenda (Kevin) Streicher of Lamont; his brother, John (Catherine) McQuillen of Marion; and a sister, Doris (Elmer) Manson of Manchester; 12 grandchildren, Andrea Millang, Betsy and Tyler Gillis, Adam Millang, Matt and Tracy Zitelman, Marcia Zitelman, Marie and Mark Bockenstedt, Michele Zitelman, Tyler and Danielle Franck, Colleen Franck (fiancé Kyle Bentley), Trevor Franck, Kyle Streicher, and Blake Streicher; one great-grandson, Hunter Lee Franck; and two great-grandchildren on the way.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and Jerry McQuillen; and a sister, Mary Jane Paris.
