James Lawrence Althoff, 79, of McGregor, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, peacefully in his sleep at home. He was the son of Frank and Rose (Mormann) Althoff, born September 25, 1929 at Petersburg.

James attended schools in Petersburg, Bankston and Dyersville. He worked at Dubuque Packing Company until retirement in the early 1980's; at which time he moved to rural McGregor. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona.

Surviving are one brother, Emil (Elsie) Althoff of Earlville; two sisters, Verna Henkels of Garnavillo and Mildred (Ben) Zuercher of Garber; one sister-in-law, Leona Althoff of Dyersville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Theodore Althoff, Sylvester Althoff and Ambrose Althoff and one sister-in-law, Alice Althoff and one brother-in-law John Henkels.
