Michael H. Zaring, Sr., 54, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born on July 24, 1955, in Berwyn, Illinois, the son of Macy H. and Carol L. (Kobler) Zaring. He was raised and educated in Berwyn and Wauzeka, Wisconsin, and graduated from Boscobel High School in 1974.
Michael was united in marriage to Kathleen LaVere Tanner on June 20, 1975, in McGregor. Together they resided in McGregor until 1983 when they moved to Strawberry Point. Michael was employed by Gencor- Bituma Corp. in Marquette as a welder.
Michael was an avid Green Bay Packer and Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and collecting coins and baseball cards. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Zaring of Strawberry Point; eight children, Michael, Jr. (Jennifer) Zaring of Manchester, Michelle Zaring of Dubuque, Crystal Zaring of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, Matthew (Jennifer) Zaring of Pekin, Illinois, Mark Zaring of Oelwein, Melinda Zaring of Ames, Daniel Zaring of Epworth, and Marsha Zaring of Hawkeye; four grandchildren, Madison, Grant, Madyson, and Jacob; four brothers, Dennis Zaring of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Bruce (Chris) Zaring of Rio, Wisconsin, John (Katie) Zaring and Steve Zaring all of Madison, Wisconsin; and one sister, Mary Zaring of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and a brother, Mark.
