Donna M. Smock, 85, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died on Monday, August 10, 2009, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. She was born May 18, 1924, at Masonville, Iowa, to Clem and Bridget “Jane” (Heffernen) Duffy. Donna was raised and educated in the area, attending school at Winthrop.
Donna was united in marriage to Donald Smock on June 14, 1941, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Edgewood. Three daughters were born to this union. Donna and Donald farmed until 1961 and in 1965 moved to Dundee. Donna worked over the years as a nurses aide in the Independence Hospital, for private care, and at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. She retired in 1986. In September of 2006, she entered the Gernand Center in Strawberry Point living there until 2008 when she entered the Yankee Settlement in Edgewood. In 2009 she moved to the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point.
Donna will be remembered as one who enjoyed cooking, walking, and visiting with the neighbors.
Survivors include her three daughters, Shiela (Gerald) Dunn of Cedar Rapids, Suzanne (Richard) Langel of Manchester, and Debra (Ronald) Stoecker of Princeville, Illinois; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Cecil Duffy of Dubuque; four sisters, Letiticia Hartman of Strawberry Point, Marjorie McMahon, Delores Morley, and Marlene (Irvin) Hubbard all of Dubuque.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Smock in 2006; grandsons, Rodney and Chad Cozad; great-grandson, Carter DeMoss; sister, Jean Schuster; brothers, Leo and Bonny Duffy; and her parents.
