Arthur J. “A.J.” McEnany, 92, of Manchester, formerly of Ryan died on Friday, August 21, 2009. A. J. was born October 13, 1916, in rural Ryan, the son of Arthur Joseph and Sadie (Keegan) McEnany. He was raised in rural Ryan, attended local country schools, and graduated from Coggon High School in 1935.
A.J. was united in marriage to Loretta Short on May 24, 1944, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti. Eight children were born to this union. They lived and farmed on the “home” place until 1996 when they moved to Manchester. In October 2008, they moved to the Good Neighbor Society.
A.J. loved farming, playing cards. and socializing. He was a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti and a current member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester.
Survivors include his wife Loretta McEnany of Manchester; six children, Arthur J. (Ginny) McEnany of Missouri, Margie (John) Heles of Des Moines, Marilyn (Charlie) Moore of Cedar Rapids, Barbara (Dan) Feldmann of Cedar Rapids, Maxine McEnany of Davenport, and Bill McEnany of Ryan; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A.J. was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tom McEnany; one daughter, Kathryn Christensen; one grandson, Scott McEnany; four sisters, Berniece Walderbach, Gertrude Cosgrove, Sadie Hite, and Eileen Huseth, and one brother, Louis McEnany.
