Leo Henry Bockenstedt, 81, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away from an extended illness on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at his home. He was born on February 23, 1928, at his home in Colesburg, the son of
Leonard and Catherine (Lansing) Bockenstedt. Leo entered the armed forces where he served for two years.
On November 6, 1951, Leo was united in marriage to Rita Jane Nurre. Together Leo and Rita had seven children. After Rita’s death on May 30, 1991, Leo was married to Lois Baumgartner on July 3, 1992, just completing 17 years of marriage.
Survivors include his five sons, Glen (Sherrie) Bockenstedt of Manchester, Jan (Michelle) Bockenstedt of Garber, Neil Bockenstedt of Nebraska, Curt (Nancy) Bockenstedt of Edgewood, and Daron (Cindy) Bockenstedt of Edgewood; two daughters, Karen (Mike) Zittergruen of Arizona and Faye (Mark) Mraz of Georgia; his second wife, Lois Bockenstedt of Edgewood; seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers; and six sisters.
Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita; one granddaughter, Andrea Bockenstedt; his parents, Leonard and Catherine Bockenstedt; and an infant sister, Teresa.
