Jan Alan Refle, forty-six, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and friend, passed away on September 2, 2009, at Saint Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota. Jan passed away from complications following an accidental fall at work. He was born on April 17, 1963, in Elkader, Iowa, to Dean and Sandy Refle. He grew up on a farm in Elkport, with his sister Annette (Refle) Hayes. Growing up he enjoyed snowmobiling farming, camping, and riding dirt bikes. He graduated in 1981 from Central Community High School in Elkader, where he was active in FFA. Jan was united in marriage to Sheri Jarman on March 5, 1988, in Volga, Iowa. Jan and Sheri had one beautiful daughter, Elisha Lynn Refle. The family resided in Strawberry Point, Iowa, until three years ago when Jan and Sheri built their second home near Elkport, Iowa. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jan was very passionate about many hobbies, including rebuilding old cars, construction, traveling, and landscaping. He truly enjoyed building his family two homes. He was always there when family and friends needed a helping hand. Jan always had a smile on his face and was well liked by others. His true passion in life was taking care of Sheri, Elisha and their dog, Buttons. Jan was employed for many years as a foreman for ProBuild in Elkader, Iowa. He enjoyed working with his crew and making sure the customers were happy with the completed project. Jan made a true impact in the surrounding communities with his skilled and detailed carpentry. Jan is survived by his wife Sheri; daughter Elisha of Phoenix, Arizona; parents Dean and Sandy of rural Elkport; sister Annette (Greg) Hayes and nieces Mackenzie and Rylee Hayes of Urbandale, Iowa; father and mother-in-law Jess and Carol Jarman of Strawberry Point, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sandi Brown and fiancé Steve Barton and nieces and nephews Allan and Amber Brown and Chance Barton, and Sheri's grandmother, Arlene Hakert of Elkader, Iowa. Preceding Jan in death includes grandparents William and Nina Refle and Sheri's grandfather Melvin Hakert. | |
